[PROD] New User Registration - "user not found, or token incorrect" when verifying email [originally logged on staging but also happening in Prod)

Issue

I registered a new user on GO staging, correctly got a "validate your account" email asking me to please

Please validate your IFRC Go account by following this link.

However when I clicked on the link it took me to a page that said

User not found, or token incorrect
We could not find a user and token that matched those supplied. Please contact your system administrator.

Please can you investigate so that I can continue my testing! Thanks loads

Steps to reproduce

Go to https://go-stage.ifrc.org/register and create a new user - click on the link in the email that you receive.

OK I think it's to do with having a + in the email address (which is allowable in email addresses but it seems that GO doesn't handle it). Not urgent but please fix, as I know several people who use + to handle different signups. Cheers

@tovari I see from the IM mailbox that a user in Production had this issue today as well - and by the looks of things they don't have any special characters in their email address. Worth investigating!

I have just changed the title to reflect this is an issue in Production - as we have received an email from yet another user who has experienced this problem when validating their account. Please investigate urgently, thanks a million.
